On the Trail

Break that glass ceiling with your own homage to Sarah Palin’s favorite food, moose stew:

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lbs moose, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/4 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 (10 1/2 ounce) cans condensed beef broth
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 18 small whole white onions
  • 12 small new potatoes, peeled
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour

    Legalize It

    The LA Times reports today that a Los Angeles Superior Court judge has overturned the city’s ordinance banning taco trucks from staying in one spot for more than an hour. Some expect the city to try and rewrite the ordinance, but today those mobile meals are legal again.

    Sunnin is a restaurant turned outside-in, an alleyway of a place where fake balconies bulge out of the wall and decorative shutters stay permanently sealed. In that faux courtyard, the restaurant feels as though it has an open-air café stuck inside, lights streaming off the street and air rushing in with the kind of deadening warmth that usually crawls out of the start of fall.
